What is the Frome Open Art Trail?
A brief history
The ‘Frome Open Art Trail’ started in 2007 as the ‘Frome Open Studios’ and has grown in size and popularity to become a staple event which takes place during Frome Festival. Some artists open up along with the Hidden Gardens trail – an added bonus. We produce a brochure each year which will be available online. Sadly this year we are not able to be Open to our visitors on foot – however, we are going to be online as a Virtual Open Art Trail. So we will be working with participating artists to enable them to show and sell their work via their own online Galleries.
We are proud to be part of the local community and collaborate with other local creative organisations in Frome including Black Swan Arts, Frome Festival, Frome FM and many other local businesses.
We are entirely volunteer-driven, local artists and makers who love their town. We’re grateful to everyone who has been a part of the Frome Open Studios story, in particular Caroline Walsh-Waring who coordinated the event for 7 years until she decided it was time to let others have a go and Rosie Hart who made the original website. The teams change over the years and we always welcome new members to help with the smooth running behind the scenes.
We also thank our many participants who work hard to prepare and open their homes and studios, or group together to hire venues. And a big thanks to all our entrants and volunteers who spread the word, put up posters and deliver brochures in Frome and further afield. We hope you and all the visitors enjoy the event as much as we do creating and participating in it.
